Unique Experience
James can offer educated guidance through the Sydney art world. He is also familiar with art fairs having presented at Sydney Contemporary, the Melbourne Art Fair and internationally at Art Stage Singapore in 2013.
James was engaged as the Contemporary Art Specialist at Michael Reid Sydney from 2016 which include running Art Signifikant, the private members program. Art Signifikant provides a complete gallery and educational experience drawing on James’ dedicated service and invaluable collecting knowledge.
In 2021 James joined the team at Woollahra Art Gallery at Redleaf.
Respected Member of the Arts Sector
James is a respected member working within the Australian arts sector. James’ expertise was acknowledged this year with an invitation to be a speaker on the panel of “For Money Not Love: The Art of Investing in Art” for the 2020 collectors talk for Art Month Sydney. James’ respect amongst his peers was acknowledged when he was invited to be a member of the selection panel for the 2017 Salon des Refuses at S.H. Ervin Gallery. For the past six years James has been selected to judge various categories within the Arts & Crafts Exhibition for the Royal Agricultural Society and the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Contemporary Art Specialist
James has recently joined the team at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf, Sydney’s latest public art gallery located in the historic St Brigid’s in Blackburn Gardens.
James was the Assistant Director of Gitte Weise Gallery, Sydney from 2002 – 2005 and Director of James Dorahy Project Space, Sydney from 2006 – 2013 working with many leading and emerging contemporary Australian artists. He also served as a Board Member of Art Month Sydney from 2010 – 2011.
